This past Saturday my Dad and I went to do some landscaping at my Dad’s rental property. The “Northside” house is actually where I grew up, so yard work over there is a very familiar thing to me. Since it’s about a 30 to 45 minute drive from where we live now, we started out pretty early. First I had to load the truck up with the tools of the trade.Lawn Mower, Wheelbarrow, Shovels and other miscellaneous tools. We got to the house and unloaded all the gear. We recently put in new sod over there, so we were happy to see that it was actually growing. But overgrown grass is not a good look.
We hired a guy to come mow it so that we could focus on just mulching, but he was a no-show. Luckily I brought my mower to knock that job out as well. Here’s a few shots of the naked garden beds and more overgrown grass.
We headed to Living Earth off of Cutten Rd to get the mulch we needed. It must be a new facility, cause it was really nice!
This ain’t my truck’s first rodeo, so it was able to handle it.
Even though we got to the Northside pretty early, the sun did as well. It got hot before we could even start working! My Dad started off mowing, while I started mulching. After a little while, we switched out and I ended up mowing the entire lawn. I forgot how huge that corner lot was! After cutting and bagging the front yard, I helped Dad knock out the mulching. The work itself is not horrible, but the heat makes it very difficult to get things done quickly! It’s like the sun sucks up all of your energy. Here are some after shots.
Doesn’t look like much via pictures, but trust me, it’s a lot better! After the bulk of the front yard work was done, my Dad switched over to trimming the bushes, while I mowed the backyard. Needless to say, we were exhausted after all that work was done. It only took about 3 hours, but it was long 3 hours!
It would have been easy enough to hire someone to do the work, but the cost for having someone mulch the garden bed compared to doing it ourselves wasn’t justifiable. It also gave us an chance to see how the new grass was coming in. Plus it’s nice to sweat a little bit and work with my Dad. So all that is good stuff. The bad… getting into the truck after it’s been baking in the sun while we worked! 45min drive back home with no A/C! That was not too fun.
After we got home, we basically chilled the rest of the day. Exhausting, but very productive weekend. Now we just have to find a lawn team to maintain it. We have no intentions on heading up to the Northside every 2 weeks to mow the lawn!
