Weekend Review [Oct. 16th, 2015]

This weekend was great. Very busy, but great.

There was a surprise birthday party for the Joys (Janie, Jason and Justin)…

…but that was the end of the weekend.  Let me start from the beginning.

My parents were on a 10 day trip to Israel and I picked them up Friday evening.  My cousin lives pretty close to the airport, so after work, I just hung out with them for a bit, then headed to the airport when my folks were ready to get scooped up.  They had an awesome time.  They highly recommended that Sheena and I take the trip.  I think when Layla and Ezzy don’t need to be carried around anymore, we’ll consider it!

Saturday morning we did some errands, which included taking Ezzy to the Doctor’s office.  He was walking with a limp Friday night and it was concerning, so we brought him in.  We when checked him out, he didn’t cry or even wince, so we had no clue what it could have been.  The Doc checked him out and apparently he had a tiny splinter under his toe that make it tough to walk on.  They did their best to get it out, but at the end of the day, he was fine and walking normal again.

After getting all of our errands done, we dropped off the kids with my parents and went to a wedding at Lake Conroe.  My co-worker Patty invited us and we were happy to be a part of it!  I didn’t realize this, but Lake Conroe is 1.5hrs away from our house!  But it was still worth it!

The setting was amazing.  In addition to being on the lake, the weather was awesome!

Sheena and I had to bounce out a little early.  As noted above, my folks just came back from Israel and were still jet lagged.  So essentially, we spent 1.5hrs getting to the wedding, then spent 1.5hrs at the wedding, then another 1.5hrs getting home!  It all felt a bit rushed, but I guess that’s the life of a parent… right?

Sunday we decided to go to IPC Hebron (my parent’s church) so that we could all have lunch together afterwards.  It’s nice to go and visit from time to time.  My sis-in-law’s mother was in town, so it was nice to all have lunch together afterwards.  We did the typical Sunday-after-church lunch at Luby’s!  It was great.  The waitress gave the kids balloons and they were flipping out!  Good times.

After lunch we quickly went home, changed and headed back out to Pearland.  Sheena’s aunt was throwing a surprise birthday party for her kids Janie, Jason and Justin.

It was great to see everyone and just hang for a bit.  The boys came in first.

Birthday Boys

Janie was coming back from a trip, so she came in a bit later.

Birthday Girl

Look at that cake!  It was massive!

Here’s a sweet pic of the siblings cutting the cake together…. but things didn’t remain this nice….

Shortly after the cake was cut, this happened:

Like I said before, very fun party!  In addition to the massive cake pictured above, Ashley made some Oreo Brownies.  I was stuffed, but Nevin was raving about how good it was, so I packed a couple to take home.  While I was packing up the kids, I placed the to-go brownies on top of my car…. and they never made it inside.  I drove off not thinking about it and are probably being enjoyed by a raccoon and squirrels this morning!

Ashley, if you’re reading this… sorry for being careless!  I was looking forward to eating ’em!  Also, if by chance you have extra Oreo brownies and are looking for a way to dispose of ’em, give us a holla!

I always end these blogs with “it was a great weekend!”  or something along those lines.  It’s because they are great weekends, but I’d like to end this one with a teaser about the next few blogs I’ll be posting.

I’m really interested in real estate and the rental property business.  I’ve put together a 3 part “series” of blogs talking about that.  I’m no professional, so you should read it with a grain of salt, but it’s just what I’ve experienced while getting involved in that world.  If you’re remotely interested in buying a house or becoming a landlord, I hope you find it helpful!  Look out for those postings this week!
